Vth CONGRESS ON EPILEPSY
of the
Polish Society of Epileptology
Warsaw 21-23.09.2006
P R O G R A M M E

Dear Colleagues and Friends,
On behalf of the Organizing Committee I have a great pleasure and honor to invite you to Warsaw to attend the Vth Congress on Epileptology of the Polish Society of Epileptology.
I am very pleased that our annual conferences and congresses which have been
organized since 1991 have become a tradition. I am also very glad, to see new faces amongst our old members.
This meeting, in which outstanding Polish epileptologists and invited guests from abroad will give us lectures on leading topics, presents the current state of the art and highlights the perspectives and hopes for the near future.
As always our Conference was preceded by the XIVth Symposium "Epilepsy and
Pregnancy" organized by the Foundation of Epileptology, but for the first time the
theme was influence of epilepsy and treatment on reproductive functions in men.
I am very happy to welcome our guests and invite you to participate in our
Congress. The Opening Ceremony will be followed by the General Assembly of the
Polish Society of Epileptology. I cordially invite all PSE members to attend.
This year Professor Jerzy Majkowski will open the Congress with the Inaugural
Lecture on the place of epileptology in contemporary medicine.
During the Congress we shall discuss the difficulties inherent in the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy. Now is a time of heated discussion on the economic aspects of health. Cost analysis in the treatment of epilepsy is very complex and we are only just beginning. At this conference we shall have the opportunity to hear many opinions on the issue. To better cover these problems, the Foundation of Epilepsy has organized a session especially devoted to these subjects.
Also this year the Commissions of Polish Society of Epileptology will have their own sessions. The Commission on Electroencephalography will present the role of EEG and provocative methods in the diagnosis of epilepsy. The Commission on Psychosocial Aspects of Epilepsy has prepared a session devoted to quality of live of patients with epilepsy.
This year sanofi aventis will be organising the satellite symposium. The subject of the symposium confirms the truth that correct diagnosis of epilepsy is the key of successful treatment. During this meeting we shall discuss primary generalized epilepsy in children and adults.
Just like last year we are organizing a poster session and session of free topics where participants will be able to discuss their findings with the authors of the posters.
No scientific meeting can do without social events. Today we will have a Welcome Cocktail at the Museum of the Warsaw Uprising, and tomorrow we shall have an Official Gala Dinner at which Certificates in Epileptology will be presented to members of our Society and the Award of the Editor of Epileptology will be conferred for the best publication in the last two years.
I wish to thank our sponsors - several pharmaceutical companies, the Ministry
of Scientific Research and Information Technology - for their contribution to the
scientific and organizational standards of our Congress.
Finally, I would like to thank all members of the Organising Committee, the
Scientific Committee and the Conference Secretariat for thier co-operation and their contribution to the preparation of this Congress.
I wish you a fruitful sessions and many pleasant moments in Warsaw.

XIXth Conference on Epilepsy
of the
Polish Society of Epileptology
Warsaw, 19-21.05.2005
Preliminary program
Invitation and second announcement
The organizing Committee of The Polish Society of Epileptology (PSE) has an honour to invite you on the XIXth Conference, which will take place in may 19-21 (Thursday-Saturday) 2005 in Warsaw.
The program of this Confertence is related to the progress of last years in the range of the diagnostics and optimalization of therapeutic procedure, taking into account the specificity of patients groups and their social problems.
The XIXth PSE Conference will be preceded by by the XIIIth Symposium on Epilepsy and Pregnancy, where a leading theme is a review of international registry of antiepilptic drugs in pregnant epileptic women.
This year the Conference will be inaugurated by the IInd Polish-Hungarian Symposium on Epilepsy Surgery.
The attention deserve two satellite symposia: the first - organized by Sanofi Aventis concerns usage of antiepileptic drugs in psychiatric disorders. It is a continuation of the last year conference session concerning usage of antiepileptic drugs in disorders other than epilepsy. The second symposium - organized by UCB is dedicated to the current topic of usage of new antiepileptic drugs from the theoretical and practical point of view.
This year two PSE Commisssions will organize own sessions: the Commission on Automatical and Conventional EEG Analisys and the Commission on Psychosocial Aspects of Epilepsy. Similarly like last year, also this year we organize poster session, on which participants will be able to discuss with authors results of their works.
The Organizing Committee will make efforts, so that the Conference and concurrent entertainments take place efficiently and in the pleasant atmosphere - to what certainly will contribute the welcome party and the gala dinner.
Looking forward to see you in May-conferene in Warsaw
